25.08.2021: Ocean- and Sandwaves
Today turned into one of those days you simply can’t plan for — packed, intense, and full of moments we could never have imagined.
The morning started out on the ocean, heading offshore on a catamaran. We hadn’t even settled in when our first visitor arrived from the sky: a pelican decided our boat was the perfect place to hang out — probably because the fish 🐟 was excellent 😂.
Not long after leaving the harbor, the first jaw-dropping sighting: whales 🤩🤩. Two humpback whales surfaced right in front of our boat, and we followed these magnificent giants for a while, completely in awe. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better…
…it did. Suddenly, we were surrounded by bottlenose dolphins 🤩🤩🤩. They swam right up to the boat, playing in the bow wave, allowing us to watch them from unbelievably close. Pure magic.
After all that excitement, it was time for a little refuel. Simone and Celina bravely tried fresh oysters — verdict pending, but true fans they probably won’t become 🤷🏼♂️🤙🏼.
Happy, overwhelmed, and still smiling, we stepped off the boat — and straight into the next adventure. Ben, our guide for part two, was already waiting for us.
Ben guided us through the second part of the day — straight into the heart of the Namib’s dunes. And honestly… it’s hard to put into words. We started by driving along the coastline, close enough to feel the raw power of the Atlantic crashing beside us.
Then we reached the “Long Wall” — that narrow stretch where the Namib meets the ocean. There’s only a small window to make it through, and from that moment on it was: shoes and socks off, slow down, and simply enjoy 🤩.
And then… up the dunes 😱. And what goes up, must come down — cue the dune rollercoaster 😂.
Ben stopped again and again, giving us time to truly take it all in — this surreal meeting of desert and ocean, a landscape so unique it almost feels unreal 🤩.
Later in the afternoon, he pulled over at a beautiful spot and surprised us with a proper dune picnic 🥰🤩.
Ben was pure gold. He gifted us a day in the desert we’ll never forget — one of those experiences that stays with you long after the sand is gone from your shoes 🥰🥰
