14.08.2022: heading to the parks
This morning marked the start of the first real leg of our road trip. Destination: Zion National Park. The drive itself was wonderfully relaxed — miles and miles straight ahead on Interstate 15, letting the journey unfold at its own pace.
Not long after leaving Vegas, the scenery began to shift. The landscape grew more mountainous, and the rock formations slowly turned into those deep, reddish tones so iconic to this region — creating a mood that feels almost cinematic.
Arriving in Springdale came with a small reality check. Our plan had been to hike The Narrows, walking directly through the river inside the canyon. Unfortunately, current weather conditions made that impossible — and the forecast for tomorrow isn’t looking much better either, with rain expected from noon onward 🥺🥺.
So we leaned into it. The day ended back at our beautiful hotel with an excellent dinner, and as a perfect final touch, a guitarist accompanied the evening with live music 🎵. Sometimes, slowing down turns out to be exactly what’s needed.

We gave it one more try this morning to reach The Narrows — but the weather forecast hadn’t changed, so that plan was officially off the table. Instead, we decided on a shorter hike to get a better feel for Zion National Park. And honestly? It was exactly the right call 🤩.
The nature here is absolutely stunning. Lush green trees flow almost seamlessly into deep, dark reds, fading further into rock layers so light they look nearly snow-white. Zion is one of those places that constantly shifts in color and mood — and never stops impressing.
Zion National Park is highly recommended, and not just for the hikes. The drive toward Bryce Canyon alone is worth the trip — scenic, dramatic, and endlessly captivating. We couldn’t stop staring, even when the long-forecasted thunderstorm finally rolled in.
After about an hour and a half on the road, we reached the next highlight: Bryce Canyon. In the evening, we strolled out to a sunset viewpoint — and once again, nature delivered. The iconic hoodoos are simply unreal.
Tomorrow morning, we’ll be back for sunrise 🌄.
